Common Core Math: Grade 2: Geometry

In second grade, students define shapes based on geometric attributes, such as the number of corners or edges. This includes identifying triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons and cubes. Students also partition shapes into smaller parts of equal size. In particular, students partition rectangles into rows and columns of squares to form a foundation for the concept of area.
